product rating by customer

As a medical doctor in Boulder Colorado I have been recommending these hemp seeds for many years as a source of omega-3 fatty acid, protein, and fiber. I like them best when they are roasted and salted but sometimes The Salted ones get rancid so I have began ordering them unsalted to avoid that and I salt them myself. Some manufacturers put spices into the bag as well which is excellent.I use them and recommend them added to salad, and as a replacement for cereals in many dishes. I even like a few tablespoons just with salt and olive oil. I also like to make dehydrated vegetable crackers that include this as a vegetarian source of protein and oil since so many people are allergic to other seeds and also to grains and other foods. These seem to be hypoallergenic for everyone I've shared them with the so far. Please only identify me as Paul MD

Nutritional Benefits of Unsalted Roasted Hemp Seeds (in shell)

RAW HEMP

  • Good for Your Heart and Mind
If you’re looking for a vegetarian source of omega-3 fatty acids, Hemp seeds make a good choice. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fats that help reduce inflammation, and getting more in your diet may reduce your risk of heart disease. They may also help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in concentrated amounts in the brain, and may play an important role in helping memory and cognition. So, start the day with a little heart and mind boost by adding Hemp seeds to your hot cereal or yogurt.
  • Protein Power
Hemp seeds contain all of the essential amino acids, which makes it a complete source of protein just like chicken, fish or beef. Adding three tablespoons of Hemp seeds to a salad or smoothie adds 10 grams of high-quality protein. While protein is not lacking in the American diet, the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends including more non-meat sources of protein, and these seeds make a healthy choice.
  • Minerally Speaking
Unsalted roasted hemp seeds are also a rich source of a number of essential minerals, including magnesium, phosphorus, iron and zinc. Three tablespoons meets 50 percent of the daily value for magnesium and phosphorus, 25 percent of the daily value for zinc and 15 percent for iron. Meeting your daily magnesium and phosphorus needs is important for bone health. Iron is necessary for delivering oxygen throughout your body, and zinc supports immune health.
  • Better Bowels
Fiber is a nutrient many Americans do not get enough of in their diet, according to the Dietary Guidelines. Women need 25 grams of fiber a day, and men 38 grams. Whole Hemp seeds are comprised of 10 to 15 percent fiber, or about 1 gram per 3 tablespoons. Fiber in food like hemp seeds improves bowel function by helping prevent constipation. The fiber also increases feelings of fullness so you eat less.

STORAGE OF GERBS

We strongly recommend storing in an airtight container in a cool, dark environment like a pantry or kitchen cabinet, away from direct exposure to sunlight or excessive heat like an oven. The amount of times you open the container and let in the harmful effects of oxygen will only increase the likelihood of rancidity; thus we encourage you to not empty more than 1 pound of product at a time. Gerbs can be frozen too, but we do not recommend it, because the cell structures will change as the product thaws out!

Tastes like pine nuts The taste reminds me of pine nuts. I have not tried making pesto with it but will try.

Make mornings more exciting I enjoy the nutty crunch these add to my morning oatmeal. I add 1 tablespoon in the last few minutes of cooking. The rest of the family enjoys snacking on these straight out of the bag. The product is flavorful and fresh.

Wonderful Hemp I use these in making pestos, vegan Parmesan, hemp cheese, and just snacking on. Love the deep nutty flavor the crunch, and how filling they are. For some odd reason eating a bunch of them helps keep me mentally on my toes and helps with stress and anxiety. One of my staples in my life with all my other food issues.
