Introducing Gerbs Sea Salted Whole Roasted Sunflower Seeds (In-Shell)
These United States grown and cultivated Sunflower seeds are a nutrient-dense food offering various health benefits, including improved heart health, reduced inflammation, and support for the immune system. They are packed with healthy fats, protein, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. This current batch of whole sunflower seeds have been carefully selected by the buyers at Gerbs each growing season and packaged on dedicated top 14 food allergen free equipment by Gerbs and the Conte family in their world headquarters in Johnston Rhode Island since 2003.
Eating whole sunflower seeds in the shell provides heart-healthy fats, antioxidants (Vitamin E), minerals (selenium, magnesium, zinc), B vitamins, and fiber, supporting immunity, energy, and reducing cholesterol, but only the kernel inside is edible, as shells are indigestible and can harm your digestive tract. The act of cracking them open slows consumption, preventing overeating and promoting mindful snacking.
Flavor Profile:
- Nutty: The primary flavor note, akin to almonds or hazelnuts, but milder.
- Subtly Sweet: A slight natural sweetness, which deepens with roasting into caramel-like notes.
- Earthy/Fruity: Hints of earthy undertones and sometimes a subtle fruity quality.
- Savory (when salted): Salting enhances their inherent savory aspects.
Benefits of In-Shell Format
- Slower Eating: The shell makes you work for the kernel, naturally slowing down intake and preventing overconsumption.
- Portion Control: Helps manage calorie intake since you only eat the kernel inside.
Important Note on Shells
- Do Not Eat the Shells: They are fibrous, indigestible, and can cause digestive irritation or damage. Spit them out.
How to Enjoy
- Crack the shell with your teeth, eat the kernel, and discard the shell.

Key Nutritional Benefits Gerbs Sunflower Seeds
- Promotes Heart Health: The healthy fats, fiber, magnesium, and plant sterols (phytosterols) in sunflower seeds can help lower “bad” (LDL) cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and manage blood pressure, reducing the risk of heart disease.
- Reduces Inflammation: The high levels of Vitamin E, flavonoids, and other plant compounds provide potent anti-inflammatory effects that can help lower markers for chronic diseases like heart disease and type 2 diabetes.
- Supports Immune Function: Minerals like zinc and selenium, along with Vitamin E, help enhance the body’s natural defenses against viruses and bacteria.
- Helps Manage Blood Sugar: Studies suggest that regular consumption of sunflower seeds may help lower fasting blood sugar due to their protein, fat, and fiber content, which slows digestion and the release of sugar from carbohydrates.
- Boosts Energy and Brain Function: B vitamins, particularly thiamin, help convert food into energy, while magnesium supports nerve function and brain health, potentially improving mood and memory.
- Supports Bone Health: Key minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, and copper contribute to maintaining bone mineral density and strength.

Gerbs Storage Recommendations
For the best flavor and freshness, we recommend storing your Gerbs in an airtight container in a cool, dark place such as a pantry or kitchen cabinet, away from sunlight and heat sources like the oven.
Each time the container is opened, oxygen sneaks in and can speed up rancidity, so try to keep only about ½ to one pound of product accessible at a time.
While Gerbs can be frozen, we don’t recommend it. Freezing and thawing can change the natural cell structure, which may affect texture and taste. Keep them cool, dry, and sealed tight for the best experience!
INGREDIENTS: Dry roasted whole sunflower seeds, powdered sea salt.

Nutritional Value of Gluten-Free Dry Roasted Sea Salted Sunflower Seeds (in shell)
Our fresh, delicious and crunchy sunflower seeds are incredible sources of health benefiting nutrients, minerals, antioxidants and vitamins. Much of their calories come from fatty acids. The seeds are especially rich in poly-unsaturated fatty acid linoleic acid, which comprise more 50% fatty acids in them. They are also good in mono-unsaturated oleic acid that helps lower LDL or “bad cholesterol” and increases HDL or “good-cholesterol” in the blood.
A very good source of proteins with fine quality amino acids such as tryptophan that are essential for growth, especially in children. Just 100 g of seeds provide about 21 g of protein (37% of daily-recommended values).
Sunflower seeds contain health benefiting poly-phenol compounds such as chlorogenic acid, quinic acid, and caffeic acids. These are natural anti-oxidants, which help remove harmful oxidant molecules from the body. Further, chlorogenic acid helps reduce blood sugar levels by limiting glycogen breakdown in the liver.
Further, the seeds are indeed a very rich source of vitamin E; contain about 35.17 g per 100 g (about 234% of RDA). Vitamin E is a powerful lipid soluble antioxidant, required for maintaining the integrity of cell membrane of mucus membranes and skin by protecting it from harmful oxygen-free radicals.
Sunflower kernels among is one of the finest sources of B-complex group of vitamins. They are very good sources of B-complex vitamins such as niacin, folic acid, thiamin (vitamin B1), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), pantothenic acid, and riboflavin.
Sunflowers are incredible sources of folic acid. 100 g of kernels contains 227 µg of folic acid, which is about 37% of recommended daily intake. Folic acid is essential for DNA synthesis. When given to an expectant mother during the peri-conception period, it may prevent neural tube defects in the baby.
Niacin and pyridoxine are other B-complex vitamins found abundantly in sunflower seeds. About 8.35 mg or 52% of daily-required levels of niacin is provided by just 100 g of seeds. Niacin helps reduce LDL-cholesterol levels in the blood. In addition, it enhances GABA activity inside the brain, which in turn helps reduce anxiety and neurosis.

STORAGE OF GERBS
We strongly recommend storing in an airtight container in a cool, dark environment like a pantry or kitchen cabinet, away from direct exposure to sunlight or excessive heat like an oven. The amount of times you open the container and let in the harmful effects of oxygen will only increase the likelihood of rancidity; thus we encourage you to not empty more than 1 pound of product at a time. Gerbs can be frozen too, but we do not recommend it, because the cell structures will change as the product thaws out!
